VIRTUALISATION
VIRTUALISATION
Virtualisation is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources. It is the process of dividing a physical computer into multiple “virtual” machines that are each used and managed independently.
There are three primary types of virtualisation:
1. Desktop virtualisation: This type of virtualisation involves creating a virtual desktop environment on a centralised server. Users can access their virtual desktop from any device or location.
2. Server virtualisation: With server virtualisation, multiple physical servers are consolidated onto one or more central servers. This reduces hardware costs and increases efficiency by making better use of hardware resources.
3. Storage virtualisation: Storage virtualisation involves pooling together physical storage devices so they can be accessed and used as if they were one single entity. This improves storage utilisation and makes it easier to scale storage capacity as needed.
There are many benefits to using virtualisation, including reduced IT costs, improved efficiency and flexibility, and increased security.
